Project includes construction of a new 400-room hotel; additional gaming space; and a variety of dining, entertainment and retail experiences

Expansion will generate an estimated $200 million in economic activity for New York, create thousands of new jobs, and provide additional revenue for New York State’s Lottery Education Fund

Queens, NY — Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNY) broke ground today on a $400 million expansion that will turn the highest-grossing slots casino in the United States into a world-class play, stay, dine and shop destination.

The project is estimated to generate $200 million in economic activity for New York, add approximately 1,000 good-paying careers for New Yorkers, along with approximately 3,000 construction jobs and thousands of indirect jobs, and provide additional revenue for New York State’s Lottery Education Fund, which has already received more than $1.9 billion from RWNY since the facility opened in 2011.

The expansion, scheduled to be completed in mid-2019, includes:

• A new 400-room four-star hotel with five-star suites that will rival Manhattan’s finest accommodations;

• Four new dining outlets – including a signature restaurant with an innovative dining concept by a celebrity chef;

• Several retail offerings to allow customers access to locally produced goods;

• Space to accommodate additional, new gaming, including cutting-edge, first to market products designed to appeal to millennial customers; and

• A completely new arrival experience for guests, which will allow seamless access to the hotel, as well as gaming and non-gaming amenities, including a dedicated VIP entrance area.

“We are incredibly excited to break ground on this extraordinary project, which will welcome visitors from around the world to enjoy the ultimate play, stay, dine and shop experience right here in Queens,” said Scott Molina, President of Resorts World Casino New York City. “The expansion will serve as an economic engine for our local community and the State, create more good-paying jobs for local residents, and generate significant revenue for New York State’s Lottery Education Fund. We look forward to continuing to work with our local and state partners whose unwavering support has helped turn this vision into a reality.”

The expansion of RWNY has long been a part of parent company Genting’s vision of bringing an integrated resort, popular in global destinations such as Las Vegas and Macau, to New York City. An integrated resort seamlessly features a variety of non-gaming amenities to complement the most innovative gaming products and entertainment offerings, allowing guests of all interests and budgets an experience that fits their personal tastes. This expansion project will bring the total investment at RWNY to over $1.1 billion since opening in October 2011 after the company spent over $700 million to retrofit the existing Aqueduct grandstand to become a leading entertainment destination.

Joining company executives at today’s ground breaking ceremony were a number of local elected and civic leaders including, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, Assemblywoman Stacey Amato, Councilman Eric Ulrich, Community Board 10 Executive Director Betty Braton and Hope Knight, President & CEO, Greater Jamaica Development Corporation.

“The expansion of the first and only casino in the City of New York is yet another indicator of the growth underway here in Queens,” said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. In its more than five years of operations, Resorts World has proven to be an exemplary neighbor and partner to the surrounding community. The expansion into a world-class destination will be a boon for Queens, ushering in thousands of new, good jobs and millions in economic activity.”

New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. whose district includes RWNY added, "As an economic driver and a committed partner in the surrounding communities, Resorts World Casino New York City has helped to transform and revitalize our neighborhood and borough. This expansion will make the site a true destination resort, provide for job opportunities and increase the potential for educational funding. For these reasons and more, this is the type of project that I can easily support, as we witness a step closer towards an even brighter future for Queens."

Since opening nearly six years ago, with its convenient location near JFK Airport, and as New York City’s only casino, RWNY has delivered more revenue for the State than initially forecasted. The venue welcomes more than 10 million customers per year, and has quickly become the region’s hottest gaming and entertainment destination.

In addition, Resorts World has created more than 1,100 good-paying careers, with more than half of the employees from the surrounding area, and has fostered significant economic development throughout the Queens community.

“Resorts World has stayed true to their commitment to providing good-paying careers for New Yorkers over the last six years,” said Peter Ward, President of the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council. “This much-needed expansion of the facility means more jobs for our members and millions of dollars of economic activity for New York. Resorts World has our full support.”

Resorts World has also enjoyed a great relationship with its local partners, including civic leaders and elected officials, working hand-in-hand with them from the initial groundbreaking in 2010 through this expansion process.

“Resorts World Casino New York City’s success has helped to grow jobs, stimulate the local economy and generate close to $2 billion in revenue for our State’s schools,” said John Bonacic, Chairman of the state Senate's Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee. The expansion project will allow Resorts World to reach new heights, significantly benefiting all New Yorkers.”

"I am happy to see Resorts World New York make good on its commitment to bring a world class facility to New York,” said New York State Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, Chair, Committee on Racing and Wagering. “This expansion will increase economic activity and bring new jobs while giving consumers even more entertainment options."

New York State Assemblywoman Stacey Amato, whose district includes RWNY added, "The impact Resorts World Casino New York City has had on our community is truly remarkable and we are excited to see the economic benefits this project brings to Queens."

"This expansion represents a significant investment in our Queens community,” said New York City Councilman Eric Ulrich. It will trigger an economic boom by bringing more jobs and increased revenue to the region and also provide a unique opportunity to showcase to millions around the world what makes this borough so special."

Community Board 10 Chairwoman Betty Braton stated, "Since opening its doors nearly six years ago, Resorts World Casino New York City has been a committed partner and trusted friend to our community. This project represents a significant investment in the future of Queens that we are extremely proud to be a part of and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Resorts World."
